This completely resonates with me. A failed novel project nearly paralyzed me, as a writer, for close to a year, before I found my own “true north” at a place called Cowbird, a now defunct storyteller website, not unlike Medium but much smaller. There, I found my true love of writing, and realized I don’t need a published work to validate myself as a writer. I simply need to write.
