That’s a powerful motivation. That was also the one that got me over the hump. I’d been trying to quit for 10 years, but I had a 1 year-old, and I was stealing valuable time I could be spending with him, to go smoke a cigarette. I finally decided I just had to do whatever it took to quit. As soon as I made that decision, I acquired the worst cold I’d ever had, and didn’t even want to smoke for about 3 weeks. Once over the cold, I just had to find something to do with my hands. I was over the physical part, then it was a matter of getting over the mental part of the addiction. It worked — my son turns 30 this month, and I’m glad I gave myself all that extra time with him. I hung out with him last night, and realized we have a tremendous father-son relationship — felt very blessed for that.
