I work about a block from the world-famous cherry blossom trees that encompass the Tidal Basin in D.C. Every year, I mosey over there when they are in full bloom, among thousands of people from all over the country and the world, all there to witness their stunning charms.
But I do enjoy, just as much, wandering over there when the blooms have gone, and I have them all (practically) to myself, to just wander among them, remembering the hordes there just a couple weeks before, while deeply appreciating the quiet and solitude of the now that I feel as I stroll along, shaded by their branches and less glamorous leaves.
I feel like they appreciate me, too.
