I love the accountability this calls for. As an addict in recovery, I spent my first four years' clean one hot mess, as finally, unobstructed by the escape of the high, I met my inner demons face-to-face, and allowed myself to feel victimized. The 12 steps taught me otherwise, how to own my part, how to forgive, and how to move on into a new life of opportunity and adventure, unfettered by the childhood traumas I'd learn to face and make peace with. By owning our own parts, whatever they were, and are, we free ourselves to move into a life worth living, and to stop being victims.
