Us in January, in Pittsburgh

I’m pretty excited about the weekend that will start after I’m done with work, today. We’ll start by meeting in front of our old house, up in Vienna, about 55 miles north of here. There, I’ll leave my car parked out front on the street, then we’ll go down to Bazin’s, our favorite family restaurant a couple blocks away, where we have reservations for the chef’s table. That’s where we always sit in Bazin’s, including every New Year’s Eve since they opened, about 10 years ago. From there, we’ll drive up to Gaithersburg, Maryland, to check into a hotel for the night.

Tomorrow, we’ll begin a two day couples workshop. I have no idea what to expect, other than, we both feel like it will be good for our relationship, and we’re both open and willing to do whatever we need to, to take our relationship to the next level. Whatever that is.

It’s not that where we’re at is all that bad. It isn’t — in fact, it’s pretty good. We’re best friends. We just celebrated the 36th anniversary of our first date, and will celebrate our 35th anniversary of marriage in April. That will be done at sea, on a Carribean Cruise, followed by a week in Disney World, one of our favorite places.

But, we’re both looking forward to this weekend in Gaithersburg. I have a feeling it will change us — for the better. We both know that you have to keep growing — both individually, and as a unit. To some, the unknown is scary. To me, it’s exciting. The sense of being on the verge of an adventure. Even at my extended age (65), I still love adventures. I suspect I will still love them at 95, which I do plan to be around to see.

Here we go!

Connecting the dots. Storytelling helps me to make sense of this world, and of my life. I love writing and reading. Writing is like breathing, for me.
