Ah, now you are really speaking my language, Shaan. Music is so much a part of my life. I grew up listening to so much great music. My Dad sung in the church choir and in chorale groups, always singing and listening to wonderful music. We had some great musical soundtrack record albums — from musical movies like West Side Story and Camelot. I had an older brother and sister who were accomplished singers and guitarists, who formed a folk trio with another guy — I loved listening to them.

I have a memory that always remembers what year things happened in, so whenever I hear a song, I can remember the year it was popular, and it brings back all the memories of that year, listening to that song.

Today, I carry on the musical tradition of my family — each year, since 2013, I sing the National Anthem on the field at a Washington Nationals baseball game. It’s a huge thrill for me, singing in front of 30,000 people, on a real baseball field like that. This year, it will be on August 16th. I can’t wait!

Connecting the dots. Storytelling helps me to make sense of this world, and of my life. I love writing and reading. Writing is like breathing, for me.
